Aswathy Ashok is the new heroine in Malayalam filmdom. She is the discovery of Malayalam director Fazil. He is the man who gave stars to the industry like Mohanlal, Nadia Moidu, Shalini, Kunchacko Boban to Geetu Mohandas, and many more. Fazil's latest yet-untitled film has Aswathy cast opposite Dileep. The film is on the floors.

Excerpts from an Interview:

Can you tell us something about yourself?

I am a degree student. I was a model and a veejay before turning to acting. Fazil sir chose me on my expressions while singing on television. Fazil Sir spotted me while I was hosting Tirai Tendral, a music-based programme on Jeevan TV.

When did you realize that you wanted to take to acting?

Since the time I became a model and was doing various modelling assignments, there have been offers to act in movies. But I was not yet ready for the take. Fazil Sir saw me on Jeevan TV. He offered me his Tamil film first but as the venture was delayed, this Malayalam film came across.

Tell us something about your character.

My character in the film is Nandana and she hails from a rich background. She has set goal in her life and is mature and bold. She meets Moss D Samuel (Dileep) and a kid who is with him. Her brother has become a junkie and she is worried about him. She uses the kid to emotionally persuade him to get out of his drug habit. Nandana is a bubbly kind of girl whereas I am quiet by nature. So there is some difference in her and mine characteristic.

How do you feel to be in films? 
I have not yet faced the crowd as mostly the shooting of the film has been happening indoors. So far it has been an enjoyable experience for me. Working with Fazil sir has been a learning experience as he is an institution in himself. He always made me feel comfortable in front of the camera. Also it has been great working with Dileep and he is a fantastic co-star. He also gave me tips on camera angles.

Did your experience in glamour field help you as an actor?

Certainly today I am more confident because of it. But TV is completely different from movies. In TV as an anchor I just had to be myself. In films you turn a character according to the script. However I am not very serious about a career as an actor. I am still pursuing education and would like to complete my graduation in French. So after the film, I am going back to college. Hereon I will accept only substantial films.
