Expectations on 'Thuruppugulaan' is sky high, as Mammotty is the hero. It is a complete entertainer and Mammootty plays quite a different kind of role with shades of comedy. He has Sneha as his heroine. Milan Jaleel produces it on Galaxy Films banner and Johny Antony directs it.
Kunjumon (Mammootty) is sent from Kochi to Kozhikode by his father Kochuthoma (Innocent) after he struck a person who tries to attack his father. He goes to Kozhikode as a boy and makes a living by playing card. He later starts running wayside shops. However, he rushes off to Kochi on learning that his father is in trouble.
He incidentally meets Lekshmi (Sneha) following some guys chasing her as soon as she lands Kochi from Singapore. He does not know that she is the daughter of his father’s friend, well wisher and mentor Chandrashekhara Menon (Devan), who has given his father a place in front of his five-star hotel to run a shop. Meanwhile, Chandrashekhara Menon’s manager Sreedharan Unnithan (Kalasala Babu) and his three sons (Suresh Krishna, Baburaj and Baiju Ezhupunna) are troubling him in Singapore. Now, Kunjumon also joins the fight. You will have to watch the film to know the rest of the story.
Mammootty has not left any stone unturned to entertain his fans. He wears colorful costumes, speaks funny language, dances and fights all to satisfy his fans. At the end of the day, it is his performance that draws you on. He has done a great job. Heroine Sneha also has done justice to her role. Other actors like Innocent, Devan, Salim Kumar, Hairsri Ashokan, Kalasala Babu, Jagathy Sreeumar, Suresh Krishna, Babu Raj, Venjaramoodu Suraj and Cochin Haneefa have all delivered the goods.
The film is technically fine. Alex Paul has composed good music with lyrics provided by Kaithapram. Sanjeev Shankar’s cinematography, Renjan Abraham’s editing and Salu K George’s art direction have added spice to the film. Scriptwriters Udayakrishna and Sibi K Thomas also have done great job. However, director Johny Antony deserves all the praises for making the film a complete entertainer.
